Internet Help

hey all,

My internet connection is Bell High Speed, which is always running, I never have to double click anything to gain access to the internet. I have it coming into the house through the phonejack. I have a 3 phonejack splitter connected to the wall phone jack, 2 are taken up by phones (1 for a cordless phone, and the other for a wall phone). the 3rd is taken up by another phone cable running to the modem. My modem is the "Efficient Networks Speedstream 6300" sent to me by bell a few years back.
I have 3 computers wired to the modem, and 2 laptops that are wirelessly connected. On average only 2 wired computers are being used out of the 5 all together.

My problem is when I play games online with my brother (NOT LAN) it lags quite frequently. for example my "Ping" in counterstrike is normally between 30 - 60 when i play alone online, when my brother signs in and starts playing counterstrike my ping is still 30 - 60 but it will jump to 4000 about once a minute sometimes more and stay that way for like 10 seconds displaying one frame of the game, then all of a sudden it returns and I'm dead haha.
when we play on LAN it will RARELY do that, so would that tell me that everything is connected properly? I read somewhere that i may need to open some kind of port? I have NO idea what to do?

Another problem is my internet seems to randomly cut out even when i'm not using the internet and I then have to turn off my modem and hit the reset button to get the internet to work again. this happens about twice a week, not nearly as annoying as trying to play games online, Is this because of my modem?

PLEASE HELP! haha, thanks

Remove the "splitter" it may have nothing to do with it, but still I don't see why you'd run a splitter with phones on the same line as your modem. You have to have filters usually to run phones and DSL with out issues.
