Internet problems (Virus?)

I own an Dell Inspiron 1525 and have had it about 3-4 years. Overtime, it's ability to connect to internet got worse and worse. Right now, it'll RARELY connect at all, and when it does, it's no more than 1 bar. I know its not a problem with the router, since I am currently writing this thread on my new Dell Vostro 3700, and I have 4 bars on this one, while the Inspiron has 2 bars with the yellow triangle caution symbol on top of it, and they are both right beside each other. Could it possibly be a virus thats going undetected? I've run Microsoft Security Essentials, and its not picking up on anything. How do I fix this? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Its possible the wireless card is going bad on you or it just needs a fresh install of windows. Will it connect to any other wifi hotspots?

I can connect to a hotspot if I'm close to the router. But that's kind of an inconvenience considering where my laptop is and where the router is in my home. If you were to look at the strength of all the signals both of my laptops are picking (neighbors internet, etc.), my new one gets a stronger signal than my old one from any of the routers.

I wonder if over time, the power components of a PC, including fans, degenerate and create more RFI. This (and other electrical faults) usually becomes noticeable as interference in audio circuits. In your case it would be easy to test. With both laptops switched on, move them close together and see if the newer laptop loses signal strength. A long shot however.

Sorry, but I think I disproved your theory Nanobyte. The signal has stayed the same on my new one whether or not the old one is near it. Cool theory though.

So you've actually tried taking the laptop other places that have wifi and you still have trouble connecting? I would say try updating the wireless driver and if that don't work then you have a bad wireless card.
