We have Bell DSL which easily gives us speeds of over 4mbps down and over 400kbps up. We have our modem connected to a wireless router and my brother is a big gamer, sometimes he joins games with over 30 people but does NOT host any games, sometimes he will also be in voice chat programs while downloading large files. Will doing this have an adverse affect on performance? Like for example sometimes I play Xbox Live and notice alot of lag that nobody else gets and this will be happening while he is in large games and downloading files at the same time. Is he causing me to lag?

Yes.

Any kind of download playing online games will lag you. Think of your download speed as a water pipe... He is using 3/4 of it for him, and only allowing 1/4 of it for you. There is only a limited space available.

First off, gaming over a wireless connection equals a lag monster.

If you are going to game, a wired network is really the only way to go.

And yes, if he is downloading while you or anyone else is gaming, it would increase the lag by a major factor.
