My teenage boys keep getting on xxx sites that gives me spyware and viruses hey they're teenagers. But i need to block those sites any suggestions on other or better software

What anti-virus software do you use? If you use Kaspersky Internet Security (only in the Internet Security version) you can activate parental control. It can only be disabled by password. And there are more anti-virus programs that can do that.

But if they are smart enough, they will go on safe mode where nothing is loaded and same story with the antivirus, so they won't be blocked, but let's hope that they are not that smart :D.

type "ping <address of the site>" in the command prompt (start meny > run ? type in "cmd" and press enter) to get the IP of the sire (e.g. ping www.example.com) it comes up with "Reply from <address> blah blah..." the <address> part is what you need, the number that comes up (in format n.n.n.n, where "n" is any number beetween 0 and 255) is the IP of the site. Now all you need to do is log on to your router (if you have on, that is...if you have wired broadband, you have a router), and block the IP. The specific procedure would be in your router manual... again, this only works if you have a wired broadband. But if you get the IP blocked in your router, even Safe Mode can't help it.

Or a better idea would be to go to Start - Run (or Winkey+R), type
Code:
notepad C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
and put in there the address you want to block. I don't really know what you should write there to get the expected result, so maybe someone else from here who knows to tell him.

The biggest problem I can see is -

How many "xxx" sites are there out there. You can't block them all but it might be easier to allow the good ones.

Of course! Why did I not think of this...

To the end of the file, add the line "127.0.0.1 <address>", e.g. "127.0.0.1 www.example.com" (without the quotation marks, all on one line). Then save the file. Now, as soon as someone tries address www.example.com, they get directed to 127.0.0.1 (localhost, loopback address, whatever you want to call it, basically it tries to connect to your own computer ;)) rather than the real IP behind the address. This should work in safe mode too...

The parental control is the best solution. TFT is right. And there's even free solutions for this.

I'm surprised that no one mentioned WOT (Web Of Trust)...
I use it and let me tell you it's awesome each site will come up with a rating either green, yellow, or red. Green is safe yellow is basicly telling you to be cautious and if the site has a red WOT rating then it will block it completely. Even those pop ups for example have a WOT rating most of them red, and the best part is when you use Google or even Google images it still works.

So if your looking to disable anyone that uses your computer from accessing sites that give you spyware and such, but still would like to allow the good xxx sites, I'm sure there are some but WOT will make it more likely that they won't give you spyware/adware and such.

Here is a link for the ad-on for firefox : https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/3456

I'm not completely sure if they have this for Internet Explorer but if they don't you may want to consider upgrading to Firefox.

I hope this solves your spyware problems, Good luck. :)

If you have vista use the parental controls under his account, that is good fun :D ;)

Otherwise the parental programs recommend above will work.
