Internet security

Hi everyone. I dont know much about computers at all and i stay in a block of units with co workers in workers accommodation but also has random people in other appartments and we have a hotspot wireless and it is unsecured.

When i go to the internet i have to purchase the internet through the company so its not 'free access'. I thought since i use my credit card to access, and need a username and password, even it is 'unsecured network', this would be secure for me?

Now the problem i have is i purchased internet and have my own username and password and i get 3GB of data to use in 2 weeks. This usually lasts me 2 weeks in the time frame i have to use it.

For some reason i purchased and 2 days later i could not access. I asked the owner, my boss, of the wifi and he said will look into it and get back to me. After asking 3 times he come back and said i used all my data. Now that is near impossible since i hardly even used the internet in those days. He switched service providers not long after so i dont know if he lied and is just saying it because there was a mistake or error and he doesnt want to refund me or maybe all the GB for his package was used by everyone because now its still hotspot but we purchase through another place where we get unlimited data for the same price.

Also one night, i cant remember if it was the same time i left my computer on and woke up through the night because i heard my computer restart or turn on or off or something. Maybe this sometimes can happen normally for a update or something, but i dont know.

Just wondering if someone could have accessed my computer and/or password and used all my data or even just through the network itself.

I thought i was safe with a username and password to access the internet through a hotspot.

Also what should i do about it?. Should i go to authoritys and just let them know inbetween the dates someone may have accessed my computer or internet and write a statement to cover myself?

Its scary the thought knowing what people can do if they get access and the worse part is i have absolutaly no idea and cant find out the truth.

Everything might be ok and it could be nothing but also i want to be on the safe side.

Cheers.

Sorry, after browsing the forum i think i put this is the wrong section.

First off change all your passwords.
Second, why the hell isn't it secured?
The only other way to see who was using your account to access internet is your boss's logs on the computer.

I have changed all my passwords and now use my own wireless stick for internet. This happened like 3 weeks ago. Even its probably to late as i had been using the unsecured network for a while.

I thought all hotspots are unsecured as its there for many people to use, but i thought if you paid for the internet through it you have your own security as you have a username and password. I know that my boss can see everything you do as hes the holder of the wifi and i dont trust him, but im more worried if someone used my connection and data and what they did as he can easy use it himself or give to someone to use or someone hacked my computer sniffing around.

It just says unsecured network and "information you send over this network maybe visable to others". Where before it just said unsecured without the "information sent might be visable to others" box to connect.

I had no idea and had personal conversations with people and even called my boss a idiot. lol. Logged into banking and all my password related sites thinking i was secure. Like bank, tax return, forums, facebook and so on...

The good thing is nothing is out of ordinary. No money is gone, not that i had any to steal or passwords on sites i visit changed.

Im not worried about the sites i personally visited. Im concered about someone using my connection and what they done or accessed with my data and or have all my personal information now.

The internet is annoying. You cant just be yourself on it. You have to be paranid everything you do. Cant trust anyone or anything. Im even thinking of not even using a computer every again and walking to the bank or ring on my phone to talk to someone. Its becoming a joke n this world.
