Hi there,

I got problems.
For the past few weeks my comp has been realy slow when loading any internet pages whatsoever.

I have scanned my comp for viruses and stuff but found nothing.
So i just decided to do a Destructive system recovery using my Hp recovery disk and then for a few days after recovery it started going slow again

I also have the problem some with pages saying-
Error sending request
The operation timed out.

And some pages just dont load at all:mad:

I havnt made any changes to my firewall (ZoneAlarm Security suite) and im using i am using Firefox 1.5.0.1.

You're not running any P2P programs while surfing, are you? If they're using your entire upload bandwidth (not difficult on most cable plans), that can cause the symptoms you're describing. If so, restrict the max upload speed in the program, or turn it off entirely.

Test your speed here and post your results.
http://www.dslreports.com/stest

Heres the results-
Your download speed : 450 kbps or 56.3 KB/sec.

Your upload speed : 116 kbps or 14.5 KB/sec.

Lol maybe slow anyway compaired to yours:D

Only thing I can think of is update your drivers and also check your configuration...the two settings that will effect your speed the most is your tcpip recieve window and mtu! download this program. http://www.speedguide.net/downloads.php your tcpip window should be 256960 and your mtu should be 1500 if you select optimal settings at the bottom and apply changes this program will do it for you. If that dont fix the problem then I would suspect your isp its self.

Hi,

Thanks for the link,I downloaded it and set it to optimal settings and it asked if i wanted to restart for changes to take effect so i did.
But still its slow and some pages dont load:(

I contacted My isp today and they had a look at my connection status and stuff over their end but they said everything was ok there.

I just dont know whats wrong,Its never been like this before.

Try rebooting your modem, also see if you can get another computer in there to hook up to your internet connection to rule out a computer problem.

Also post a hijackthis log here so I can take a look and see if you have somekind of nasty spyware or virus slowing you down.

Download hijackthis here http://www.majorgeeks.com/download3155.html

Have you tried to disable your firewall and see if thats what is slowing you down? Actually now that I look back at your post I kinda suspect a virus or trojan slowing you down because you said speed was fine until a couple of days after reformat.

Your log is clean, your tcpip is configured correctly it has to be your isp. You need to call them and get someone to check the line, I can 99.99% guarantee thats where your problem is, I realy dont think it's on your end! Tell the cable company you want a technician to look at it, dont let them give you the BS that they checked their end and everything is fine because all they are doing is looking at your sync rate and just because your computer is connected up at the sync rate they specify does not mean you are getting the speed that you are paying for...they need to physically get up off their a$$ and come out and inspect their equipment. You can try being nice but that will probably get ya no where so then be $hity about the whole situation...if you dont complain and realy let your feelings be known they will probably blow you off and just figure the problem will go away...lol! I have DSL and I had a problem with my speed for about a month, the last few weeks I was calling them about 20 times a day and they kept telling me the problem was on my end and finaly after talking to someone like the district manager they sent a tech to my house with a laptop and he hooked up and the best speed he could get was like 500k (I have 10mb DSL)...lol! Finaly they found the problem it was a DSLAM box in the next city...lol! Sorry for ranting but when push comes to shove you have to stand your ground with these people...call them 10 20 or even 50 times a day until they get so sick of hearing you complain they fix it...lol! Keep us posted I would like to know what the problem was!

hey, what country are you from and what ISP do you use??
if you are from the UK and are using NTL, they are doing upgrades etc at the moment, so that might be the problem.

but if you are from another country or another internet supplier i dont have a clue whats wrong :P

Thanks for all your help cell4me,

Im gonna contact them again and get em to to send out a technician to look at it.

Hey there,

Yeah im in Uk and i use Blueyonder broadband.
So i wouldnt imagine thats the problem as obviusly NTL and Blueyonder are two diffrent Isp providers.
Well thanks for your help guys and hopefully i will get the problem sorted soon.:)

What is your speed supposed to be? What is the fastest speed you get with cable in the UK?

I dont know which is the fastest cable you can get here in da uk but i currently pay £17.99 a month for mine.

Do you guys think im paying too much for the speeds im getting?

Your download speed : 450 kbps or 56.3 KB/sec.

Your upload speed : 116 kbps or 14.5 KB/sec.

if this is any use, i'm on blueyonder and i have had problems recently and today i got my free speed upgrade. the problems i had disappeared along with that.
