Internet speed dropped

Hi guys so last Sunday afternoon I was using my computer as usual my main desktop rig (gaming). My internet speed dropped awful. We have that "high-speed twc internet". Normal speed is around 10mb and up is around 2mb I think. Over the past few days it goes from 0.25 to 3mb. The up speed hasn't changed much.

Sunday the only thing I did that was different was check out vpns. After reading about the new six strikes policy. I decided to test one out. It was VPN book and I connected to it gave me a IP in Romania. Everything was fine. Disconnected continued as normal.

Things I did to check my system. First off it is only my desktop that is having issues. All other devices are working perfectly fine and work in the same room. I ran ccleaner fixed bad registries so forth. Scanned the whole system for viruses, malware, etc. Nothing came up. Checked all my drivers. Reset my router a million times. Checked the router config nothing out of the normal.

Talked to time warner for a few hours they did the basic stuff like reset it on my end and there end. Made me ping there server and tracer out. They said to call a office but I was going there tomorrow anyways. I also asked if I was being throttled be use of these six strikes thing. They said no. Also didnt receive emails like the six strike should of sent. I really thought I got flagged for thevpn. Apparently not.

After I got done with twc i messed with the router settings. I changed the channel on the router from 11 to 10. My speed jumped backed up to over 10mb. That lasted half hour to an hour then it dropped again.

Really would appricate any insight to what could be wrong.
I go to school online and mainly use my desktop its just a pain right now thanks guys.

Try a different wireless adapter. I stressed for a week and tore apart the house (not literally) in frustration. I even reinstalled Windows as a last resort with no luck. Turns out my USB wireless adapter crapped out on me and a 30 dollar Netgear replacement from Wally World fixed it.

My machine just turned a year old last week. Is it common for wireless adapters to just crap out like that ?

I assume that you have a wireless adapter in your computer, have you tried hard wiring your computer straight to the modem and the motherboard to see if it is a connection problem (Ethernet cable) or the router itself.
I was having a similar problem, but since I have no router. It turned out that my cable was bad.

I plugged it directly in and its perfect 20mb. I have to assume my card is dead. :( only lasted a year. Thanks for the help fellas.
