why do internet speeds advertised at 512kb/s only have a 50-60kb/s download speed, i know some is needed for upload but isn't 90% a bit exesive?

Hey

There is a difference between KILOBIT (Kb) and KILOBYTE (KB). 1 KB = 8Kb. Hence 512Kb = 64KB maximum download speed

couldnt have said it better myself, its just another advertising ploy. to get an actual 512KB down speed, you would need a 4Mb connection.... (or there abouts)

Thats what i have. My provider is Comcast. Although its very expensive. About 50 USD a month.

thats cheap compared to what i pay, i have to pay about that for my 1Mb connection per month... although i am getting a free upgrade to 4Mb sometime in april
