Introduction/Build

Whatsacomputer?

New Member
Hi!

little background, used to be involved in computer stuff, then kinda moved away from it for a few years, now I have no idea whats good or not.

I would like some help from those who are far more knowledgeable than me, in a computer build.

Main uses:

Everyday computing, (email, surfing etc)
Some gaming (considering trying WoW, and maybe some other cool computer game)
Video Editing

Budget: 500-600.

I was checking out outletpc.com and made a preliminary list:

Case:

SSD:

HDD:

RAM:

2of them for a tot of 8Gb

Now I'm unsure about motherboard, CPU, PSU, and videocard.

Here are my guesses:

PSU:

Motherboard:

CPU:

Videocard:

Soundcard????
DVD player/writer???

As far as operating system, Windows7 or 8??

Thankyou for the help!!

If you're in the US, then Newegg and Amazon will normally have the best prices. I prefer Newegg as they have better customer service and are computer specific. Sound card is not needed as onboard video is fine unless your a hardcore audiophile.

I'd advise looking at a build something like this.

FX 4300 CPU
Case like that is fine
CX 600 PSU
Motherboard, one like that is fine. Maybe find a 900 series board though?
Disc Drive can be something basic. Nothing more than 20 bucks. All function pretty much the same.
RAM 1600MHZ DDR3 RAM. 8GB would be plenty.
Windows 7 or 8 is up to you. I'd choose 8 personally.
And pump as much money as you can in to the video card. The GT 520 is weak. Look at a 650 or higher for NVIDIA or a 7850 or higher for AMD if possible. 7770 would be a decent choice too. Don't have time for links but finding most of that on newegg should be easy.

Also at that price an SSD might not be feasible. A single fast drive like the one you picked is fine then you can add an SSD later if you want it.

A lot newer. Phenoms are decent (I have one) but they're getting old and the 4300 is a lot better.

My recommendation? Pay an extra $10 and go for the FX 6300. It's overall a better performer than the 4300, and the price difference is minimal. It's clocked a little bit less, but once you OC you'll see a world of difference.

However, if I were building the system, I'd spend a little extra and get an i5 3570k. Awesome for both video editing and gaming, and honestly it's the best bang for your buck CPU on the market right now.

The FX-4300 is newer than the Phenom and runs on a newer socket. It's also a bit faster I think.

But I agree with the above. If the 6300 isn't much more, get it. The extra pair of cores may come in handy.
