i am trying to install win xp on a hard drive.
i took all the other hard drives out.
the drive is a 40 gig Fat32 drive. the bios sees it, but it can't boot (no OS)
i have the bios set to boot cd rom, floppy, hard drive.
I put in the win xp disk.
I get an error of no boot disk.
so I put in a dos startup floppy, and it boots off that.
it will change to the c drive and give me the dir
but if i try and change to d,e,f... I get invalid drive spec. (i was expecting the cd rom to be the d)
so I can't get to the cd rom.
but if i put the old drive in and put the win xp disk in the cd, I can read it all, I just can't install that way...
what next? I don't think making the 6 bootable floppy's for win xp setup is the way to go since the cd rom drive works, (and has been booted from in the past...)???
