IP Address - Media Disconnected

Hi,
Please PLEASE can someone help as I am currently being driven demented by my Dell lap top. I can view my wireless network and 2 other laptops are connected to it with no problems but for some reason my lap top won't. I have tried running an ipconfig /renew but it says it can't complete that as the media is disconnected and then that it says it can't contact my DHCP server.

Please can someone tell me what to do in plain english as my head is about to explode!!!!

Is your dell laptop connected to a router / hub / switch / ?
is it a cat5 cable or wireless ?
did it ever work ?
xp home or prof ?

click start
then run
type ncpa.cpl
hit or click enter
right click your network card icon
click props
highlight tcp/ip
click ummm properties or ok
make sure the radio button "obtain ip address automatically" is clicked
same for DNS

DO the ipconfig/all
what is you ip and gateway ???

IF you have a wireless network, is it secured? If it's secured have you entered the correct WEP/WPA passphrase when you first connected?

"media is disconnected"

sounds to me like your NIC is just not seated correctly, unplugged, or broken. If it was a driver problem, I think it would throw a different message.

Also, make sure your wireless zero service is running.
