IP address questions

Suppose I buy a registered domain name on a registry provider will that provider give my domain an I.P address? How about if i look for a webhost for that registered domain, will that web host also provide me a different I.P on my domain? IP's of isp and web server host are different right? Now if I am using a mail server, what is the i.p address that the recepient will see?

I am a little bit confused with this IP thing
 
Your IP is assigned by the ISP, if you register a domain on the internet then that won't effect your IP at all. The web server/file server is not on your machine, it would be located somewhere else. People could access it by going to www.webpage.com for example.

thanks for the response , I did a forward dns on one of our domain, the ip result of that forward dns and the ip of the header from our email is the same.

So what is the ip in the header of our email ? Is that the i.p of our domain or our mail server?
Is it possible that the ip of a domain and the mail server the same numbers?
 
host.company.com is your host right?

If you do a forward domain name, you'll get the IP of your host. What IP are you looking for?

He didn't mean his local machines I.P address. what he meant is if he could get an I.P address for his website.

Are you looking for a dedicated IP address?

The I.p Address is not provided by the domain registrar it is provided by the hosting company.

I know what he meant, and by the way the local IP is generally assigned by the modem/router.

Ok I see. I did a forward dns of our host company domain which also host several domains. After getting the ip of that test, i tried to reverse dns that ip. Here are the results below of the reverse dns.

208.101.51.83-static.reverse.softlayer.com <--- what is this domain? Is this the top level domain that is hosting our company domain? (It also host several domains of our company)
 
The ip address should lead to the hosts domain as i believe most entry level hosting accounts do not come with a dedicated IP address.

What do you need the ip for if you don't mind me asking

I applied as a graphic artist here, but my boss put me in a job that I am not familiar with. He wants me to check why our newsletter html emails to our subscribers are bouncing back to us. Also I am looking at this spf and sender i.d thing.

From you answer, since i have access to the whm control panel, I assume that we are hosting our domain with our main host? But our host is also being hosted by softlayer? And the server also belongs to softlayer, but we have control on that server?

Depends if you got a dedicated or shared hosting...

Dedicated you have control of the server, shared you have control over the space you got on a server where there are other customers.
