What is my ip address???

I've tryed "ipconfig" and "winipcfg" but both don't work and I want to know what my buddie's IP address is and he does't have internet..

PLZ help.

I have no idea what you're doing wrong. If you want your external IP use a site like ipchicken.com but internal addresses are always 192.168.1.2 or 192.168.1.3 it just depends on how many computers use that gateway.

Does he have a network connection (LAN)? If he doesnt even have a NIC card installed or configured then it's possible that you won't see any information back.

But still why won't the "ipconfig" and "winipcfg" command not work on my computer eather?

you are typing them into the command window (cmd.exe), correct?

your friend wont have an external IP as he isnt connected to the internet, if he is on a network (and this also applies to yourself) you can find the IP by going(on XP):

Start -> Control Panel -> Network Connections (in classic view) -> Select "Local Area Connection" and in the details section in the blue box on the left hand side of the window it should say "IP Address: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (x being a number).
this is if ipconfig wont work in cmd.

Make sure you go to Start --> Run --> type "cmd" (without quotes). It will take you to the DOS command prompt. Type "ipconfig" (w/o quotes) and press enter and it should show you at least something.

your ip isn't necessarily 192.168.something.something, typically hardware that you go out and buy uses this ip scheme but really, you can use what ever you want. I run a 10.10.1.x scheme on my network just because it's easier to type in than 192.168.x.x

Should still see the loopback though ... hell, webcams show up sometimes.
