for the most part unless
a - you pay for fixed ip address
b - you are lucky to get the same one from the pool twice

if you are on some kind of dial up asdl then odds are you are gonna get a next ip addy. If you never turn the internet off then if shouldn;t change. I've had this one for months now ;)

Maybe in London, but here it's quite the opposite.

You have the same IP address unless you have dial-up, or one of the very few cable/dsl carriers that have use static IP.

So for the most part, you have the same IP for a very long time.

aren't there programs that hide your I.P. address??? and i have seen programs that change your I.P. address...

Proxies...

As for the programs, it may be able to change your IP address when you visit websites, but it cant physically change your IP that is given to you by your ISP.

Al least in calfornia, if you disconnect to the internet(Disconenct your actull cable modem, not jsut form your PC) for more then about a half hour or so then it will get a new IP. Ussaly the max of offline time it takes to get a new IP is about 24 hours. At least thats how it is around me.

with a adsl line and a usb modem (by far the most common) you will disconnect from the net evrytime you shutdown. On reconnection you will be allocated a new ip address from your isp's pool.

It depends.... You have an internal IP address, and an external one if you have a router. Most computers connect to your router and use DHCP. If this is so, the router automaticly assigns an IP address to your computer. It is usually the same one however, unless you connect a new computer to the networkd etc. You can use static IP, which you have to set up manually. It basicly insures that you get the same IP address everytime.
Your external IP address changes once in a while. It can be set so that it says the same, but i am not sure how to.
