Is the iPhone GPS as good as they say, or would it be more beneficial to get a Tom Tom or Garmin? I would typically only use it in the car, so would it even be safe to try to use the iPhone in that setting?

The iPhone GPS is scary accurate. However, the way it works is with Google Maps on the phone, it DOES NOT give turn by turn like a TOMTOM or Garmin. Also it is very hard to use as a the driver of the vehicle, I usually have my wife use it for me. I held off on buying a TOMTOM until I got my iPhone 3G, and because of these issues I did end up buying one.

That's what I was afraid of. I thought it would be much too hard to use as the driver. Plus since I am less than stellar at directions, the turn by turn assurance would be best for me I think. Thanks so much for the input!
