Hardware issue, probably a bad connection to the screen or a damaged screen.

Yep. See the little black rectangle-ish thing near the bottom left? That's probably where it was hit, in that general vicinity...

The screen is definitely busted. Fortunately the replacement part is pretty cheap:

Unfortunately, the 3rd gen nanos are an absolute pain to take apart, and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone that doesn't have any iPod repair experience, as you could definitely end up damaging the thing.

Haha but in this case...nothing to lose right! I expected it was. I left it with my sister after i had gone on a trip for the month and came back to it like this.

Ipod Hardrives are really expensive for the classics and kinds like that... :|
