iPod + iTunes

Well, I am no too happy now. I just went out and bought a 1GB iPod Nano, with a case and such, and installed the software on the disk. All was going well, but, I cannot start iTunes. Every time I click the icon it says the following:

I am stumped! If anyone has any input on the topic at all, please say somthing, I need help, badly!

But the iPod says do not disconnect on the screen and from what I can see it seems to be transfering files or somthing (I read a little on the web).
 
Ok, I reinstalled iTunes and all that, and it does the same thing, this is really not good, any help would be great! I need this to work!
 
just download the latest version of itunes from the apple website, you could have got a corrupted install or something, and if you get it direct from the website it is likely to be a more up to date version, so will save you having to update as soon as you install
