IPv6

Absolutely no problems on the Internet when I turned my computer on this morning. I'm hooked up directly to our residential gateway from AT&T U-verse through an ethernet cable on the other end of the house.

Tonight I turn it on and some sites weren't loading at all, some sites were taking long as heck to load, and some sites would load quick but not all the images (Facebook) were showing up.

When I logged on to my Yahoo account, there was some text at the top of the page about IPv6. It talked about IPv6 World Day which was apparently June 8th and other common questions. I went to the AT&T U-verse support website and typed "IPv6" in the search and it said that AT&T U-verse will not be upgrading the firmware in the leased Residential Gateways form IPv4 to IPv6 until late 2011 or early 2012, but that this should have no effect on internet browsing. Well, it has and is having an effect on my browsing capabilities.

Would we be able to get a Linksys or Netgear, etc., brand residential gateway that isn't owned by an ISP, or will they still need to be upgraded via AT&T as well??

Also, they said not to call their customer center to ask for the firmware to updated sooner because it is not possible.

Thanks for any info!

I'm guessing you have Cable and not ADSL (over the copper lines), I'm not familiar with Cable, especially not in the states, but you'd need a cable modem/router and your ISP username and password.

If you find the OEM of the modem you currently have, you could go to it's website and manually do the firmware, though if you unplug it or lose power or reset it during that, you will brick it.
