irc

from wat i kno its like an AIM chat room. where you get into a server(chat room) and talk to people. but ya i woould like to kno more too
 
it's 'internet relay chat'. it's a pretty decent chat service. free, last i knew
there are thousands upon thousands of chat rooms. and you can go to pretty much any rooms you want, and they also have ftp connections for peer-to-peer downloading and uploading

you can download a whole bunch of stuff, just depends on what people are willing to send out. usually there are limits though. like you can only download so many KB depending on how much you upload to the person.
most of the people who have the ftp services in there have a whole lot of porn and not much of nothin else. and i reckon it's about as safe as any other peer-to-peer connection. i just wouldn't download any kind of .exe files or anything
 
not quite. mostly it is used just for chatting.
and i have seen people offering music and movies and such. but not too often
like i said, most of any downloading involves porn.
it's pretty good if you're looking to chat with people though
 
well, it does have kind of a messenger inside the program. but mostly it's designed for chat rooms. and actually, i haven't used trillian in a long time, but last i know you can use trillian for accessing irc. never figured out how, but i know there is a way
trillian supports aim, YM, msn, icq and irc.

and i have no idea what that other thing is
 
well, to be honest i've never heard of it. but i did a google search and it seems that it's pretty much the same as kazaa and winmx. download games, music, movies and all that stuff. dunno if it's safe or not

that depends.
just like kazaa, it depends on what exactly you download
if there is a copyright on it, then it's illegal to download. or, as someone was explaining in a different post awhile ago, it's illegal to upload copyright items, not to download them

but yeah, if you download a song that has a copyright to it, or a game, then yes. but if you download a freeware game or something, or a song that is like a remix to another song(certain radio remix's) then no, it's not illegal
