Is 1GB of DDR2 Ram enough?

Absolutely. For XP, 512MB is really all you need for just basic word processing and web browsing, but 1GB does well to keep things moving well.

For Vista, 1GB would be the minimum I would run. I am on Vista right now with 512MB, and if you have more then a few tabs open in IE, have msn running, and try to open up media player or anything you're maxed out completely. :)

A quick question:

Im planning a computer to run VISTA and Im conpemplating between these 2 options:

1. E6600 - 1GB 800Mhz RAM
2. E6400 - 2 GB 800Mhz RAM

Both these systems will have the 7600GT. Im wondering which one is better? I play a fair bit of games =]

The advantages of having 2GB for vista will greatly outweigh the slight performance increase going from the E6600 to the E6400.

Hmm..I would personally go with the E6600, as it has faster clock speed and 4mb of L2 cache compared to 2mb on the E6400. Another reason would be that it would be easy to upgrade to 2gb of ram when needed, but upgrading processor takes a whole lot more cash.
