is chipset the same as motherboard or are you all laughing @ me?

The Motherboard is the whole board, the chipset is the about 2 inch squard chip on the board, has a heatsink and sometimes a fan on it

No, they're not the same.
Example: my motherboard has a model number of AM39L or K7M-400, depending on who you talk to. The chipset is a VIA KM400. There are other motherboards that use the KM400 chipset as well.
This is just one example. There are many different motherboards that use the same chipset.
