IS DVI better than VGA ?

As people have said it's a better signal, being digital, but many users cannot distinguish one from the other. Kinda sucks.

I noticed a big difference on my 22" monitor switching from VGA to DVI. It only occured with certain colors and color patterns (atleast thats only what my eye could see) but with the VGA on the 22" there seemed to be quite a bit of "noise" I guess you would call it. Quite distracting in some cases.

But then I installed the DVI cable and the picture is much clearer. No noticable noise or anything.

And it wasn't like there was noise all over the screen like a tv on a nonbroadcasted channel. It was just certain colors/patterns that were extremely annoying because of this slight "noise".

I've never noticed a difference between the two on regular 19 or 22" monitors, but DVI is better. It has a much higher bandwidth capacity so it can display images on a much higher resolution.

So yes, it's better, but you probably wont see a difference unless you have an insanely high resolution and refresh rate.

On my 17", the only difference I could see was when I ran at lower resolutions. Basically the DVI would automatically fit the screen where as VGA would need to be adjusted at times. Besides that, I couldn't tell any difference. Again, I only have a 17" and it was cheaper. As others said, perhaps it's more noticeable over a larger screen or higher resolutions...

go compare dvi and vga side by side. the vga is duller especially if you turn up the brightness.

HDMI output on a monitor now you CAN definitely see the difference. :)

Here's a good article on the subject: LCD connections: analog vs. digital

Quote:
"When connected via an analog connection, an LCD is vulnerable to the same distortions that affect CRT monitors. However, when connected via a digital connection, often labeled DVI (for Digital Visual Interface), no digital-to-analog conversion is required, and there should be no loss or corruption of the signal. As a result, when running at its native resolution, an LCD should give you a cleaner and crisper image than you'd see on a CRT.

...

However, the advantage of digital signals for LCDs is of somewhat less importance now than it was a few years ago. Analog signal processing has improved to the point where major differences in image quality can be difficult to detect."

if you wear contacts or have glasses or have 20/20 (doubt it ) :D you should see the different, if not then is time to see the doctor :)

if is even easier to see the difference if you have windows 2000 or run a classic theme.

Thats probably a monitor thing, because all of my monitors worked fine at adjusting the screen with various resolutions.
