Is Half Life2 a good game?

As Burgon said, if you purchase the collection pack, which I did (and it comes with the installation files for HL2DM, HL2, CS:S and HL:S), but if you only buy the single HL2 game, you can still download CS:S and HL2DM for free. The only benefit of purchasing the collection pack is that it's less effort to install everything as you don't have to download the setup files.
 
Not really, although it will help as the characters in the second one do make references to situations and other people out of the first one, but from what I've noticed thus far they're not storyline reliant (in the sense that the references to the older Half Life don't help at all with the storyline of the second). But I have friends that have played the second without having the first and they say they got the jist of the game pretty well.
