is intel's yonah a true 64 bit cpu?

Right now there not (at least mine), but i heard they might make it 64-bit in the future.

It seems that the Intel Core Duo processors that are all the rage these days may be a little more powerful than Intel would have you know. Thanks to a little detective work, it’s been discovered that the processors, deep down inside, are actually 64-bit compatible. Yes, that Core Duo you have right now is a 64-bit chip. Intel openly admits that its Sossaman chips are 64-bit, but does not mention this fact about its consumer-targetted Yonah chips, despite the fact that the two are one in the same. What consumer (or geek) would not want to play around with a 64-bit Linux distribution, or Windows 64-bit for that matter? Intel may just have some explaining to do.
could be arsed to right this out again :)

so your sayin that I can install Windows XP Pro x64 on my pc without any tweaking?

I havent heard anyone doing it, but from a achitec point seems doable, why not try it. The worst thing that could happen will be a failed install.

Cromewell ever heard of anyone doing this?

I suspect they are all capable of 64bit operation but have the extended registers disabled. Or it could be that everything is enabled and they just aren't telling you. I don't think a 64bit register would have any significant negative impact on battery life so you may be able to run it

I'll try it, i know i tried it on a 32bit system before and it said that it wasnt 64 bit before it even started installing, so it should do it again if it happens with this cpu.
