Is is possible to upgrade my laptop PC?

I'm trying to find out if it's possible for me to upgrade my laptop computer so i can do stuff with it better. I have a Toshiba laptop that runs windows 7 and I have 300GB of space left on it.
The stuff i do with it is:
I render my videos with sonyvegas (which takes forever because I render them in wmv format in HD. I'm trying to figure out how to upgrade my computer so that can go by faster)
I play computer games on it too, like sims 2, and simcity 4, and i might install GTA 4 and GTA 5 on it or elder scrolls oblivion, but i havent yet.
i also use a program called particle illusion for my videos but it goes really slow and choppy on my computer.
I want to upgrade it so it runs faster with rendering in sony vegas and particle illusion. I believe if i upgrade the ram it will take care of things. Am i correct? or would there be more stuff i need to upgrade?
Can someone please help me figure it out?
and if you need more information about my laptop, just ask.

Greetings!

For Vegas and gaming you'd need something with a decent GPU. The current time it takes to render a video is limited by your CPU, however newer versions of Vegas support CUDA/OpenCL for GPU accelerated encoding. Unfortunately, on the vast majority of consumer grade laptops you aren't able to upgrade the graphics.

You'll most likely be looking at newer units to replace the whole laptop.

oh ok. which new laptop would u prefer me to get?
and the laptop im using now is a satellite c875d-s7225 toshiba laptop. would I be able to upgrade the CPU on that?

I would say you will need a new laptop, go for intel I5 quad core with say gtx960m dedicated video card.

That one only has a 256 gb SSD drive in it and no bigger storage drive. Getting a desktop pc would be better.

You may want to forgo the SSD to get a bigger HDD. If you are gonna have videos then they will fill up the ssd kind of quick.

yeah. i know they will. i wasn't really worried about the storage to be honest. i was planning on getting a few terabyte hard-drives to store that content on. i just didnt like how slow particle illusion was running and how long it took me to render an HD video in sonyvegas.
but i did want atleast 500GB on my new laptop

Even external usb 3 hdd will be slower than having a regular hdd.

well i wasn't going to render them directly to the external harddrives. i was going to render it to my computer internal harddrive then transfer it to my external harddrive afterward. it actually transfers fast enough really.
