I don't know about the 940 but I got a 930 at Microcenter for $200 plus tax, which kills the price of that processor from anywhere else. The chip is triple channel which means it's going to operate best on RAM that is in multiples of 3, (6 gigs, or 12) This set is my Newegg shopping cart for eventual use with the 930. Of course you may find a set you like better but the point is to use RAM that is in multiple's of 3 if you can.
The x58 is the right board for the 930. The 1366 socket is the correct socket.
I don't see MicroCenter listing the 940, at least at the one near me (Cleveland). Online it looks to be $500 + and it's hard to imagine the tradeoff in price would merit the performance increase for a mainstream user. That said, MicroCenter also has the i7-875 for $300 which looks like a monster.
As for a case, This looks like an especially good combo of a very popular/solid case and x58 mobo with a $50 disount through the combo.

hey man great to hear you are from Ohio also!!!! i just went to the microcenter near Beachwood!!!(by mayfield) what a small world.... ! so u are saying i should get a 6 gig ram?? because that will run better?

Hey, yeah... I guess we go to the same MC then... on Mayfeild Road up there I think. As far as any of this stuff goes, I'm no expert at all and am just figuring things out well enough to hopefully build something of my own that's respectable.
I bought my 930 up there and am still compiling the parts to put a full build together. If you check for 6gig ddr3 kits at Newegg, there is an option at the top of the screen to sort the kits by 'best rated' Link. It'll give you something to go on. There are different speeds of ram, 1333, 1600, even 2000... and then there are also cas latencies and timings. Honestly, I doubt guys like us would ever know the difference in performance, but part of the fun in building seems to be finding the best stuff you can for the money. If you decide on a MoBo there may be a list of supported Ram preferred by that board that you could find on line.
For my 930 builds' MoBo and Ram right now I'm thinking This to take advantage of really good combo price. Then adding another 2 gigs . [I hope someone will let me know if there'd be an issue in there anywhere]. Corsair and GSkill both get very good respect on the forum for brands of Ram. Mushkin does also. OCZ does not.
Like I say, I'm a noob, so you'll wanna do your homework and check reviews. If you give a budget you might see some people suggest build lists of components in your thread. Good Luck, Man.

hhah thx man. that's pretty funny..... from the same area ...both buildin are own computers...and well not to judge but it seems that we know about the same on computer hard ware..but thx for the links i am checking those out right now....

I have the case and it is very solid. I might have looked a little more at the CM Storm Sniper, but that good of a combo is hard to pass up. The Heatsink is reviewed as 'elite'. It's a good size and the price is very good. I bought mine from that site and had no problems. The PSU is recertified, but was referred to me originally by a member named bomberboy who's especially knowledgeable. The disclaimer on the PSU mentions possible cosmetic blemishes but I bought one and didn't see anything.
I don't think anyone would laugh at you for putting together that much computer with about $1300. With what you'd be saving between the Microcenter CPU and the Combo's, especially on the case/MoBo... I wonder if you might have room in the budget for a 5870 (with windows & game) for another $85 (vs. the 5850)? I'm sure plenty of people have spent $1400 (almost) on lesser builds.

yea i would love a 5870.... and when i think about it 1300 bumped up to 1400 inst a big shift price wise for a gaming PC. the part that gets me is when i say to my self... 400 dollars is a lot of money. i guess it is when i break down the cost, that's when you notice the price value of everything lol....
