hello i have a Dell 8400 with 80GB HD and new 512(2) Memmory and 512mb ram. about 6 months ago i find out the Motherboard is out, well i think it is. there is absolutely no power to the keyboard or mouse Ever not even 1 second of lights. when it boots the fan goes out of control winding up like a plane taking off!
what do you guys think is going wrong?
the computer is just setting there in a room we dont use, we have a 19" monitor and a Barely used Erganomical keyboard that was $50 and a logitech mouse operated by a ball using yout thumb if you know wat i mean...

if you know how to build computers i'd salvage all the parts i can and make a newer and better one cuz it sounds like ur motherboard just kicked the bucket. plus that thing is pretty old and an upgrade could be good anyways.

If you know anyone who can help you, I would buy a barebones computer and pull your old hard drive and use that. We can give you advice on what to buy if you are interested.

For about $385 a few months ago I bought a barebones system pulled the hard drive out of my old computer and bought some new Random Access Memory and now I'm upgraded for the next three years atleast.

Dell uses BTX motherboards, which is not the standard ATX type, meaning that you're going to have to pay extra $$$ for that type of motherboard... otherwise you could buy a junked Dell from Ebay and salvage the motherboard...

I don't know if its worth fixing, most of it depends on you and what you do with it, your budget and all... but I know that there are some parts that could go into my computer and make it better ;)

well i can get a new motherboard from dell, how much would that cost me?
i know a dell tech that will go through on how to install it with me for free.

Why not just buy a cheap case? And a 478 motherboard + a fan and switch the parts? Overall, it would be cheaper... [in my opinion]

yeah i think thats what im going to do. Get a new case transfew everything over ans get a fresh Motherboard.
