I have several live concerts on DVD that I want to burn as audio only on CDRs so i can listen to them in my car, etc. Is this possible? Help please!

I guess this is an alright topic to discuss here. Any type of copying is sketchy around these forums...

Anyway, it'd help if we knew the type of data. I mean are they videos that you just want the audio from, are they DVD-Audio disks, or what?

Thanks for the reply.

What I'm trying to do is get the audio off the Phish IT Festival DVD and a few other DVDs (store-bought). So yes, they are videos that i just want the audio from.

Sorry, didn't know that burning was a touchy subject here. I appologize.

Well I think it should be OK if you already bought the DVDs, I take it you want it on CD to play on a stereo/in car/walkman etc?

It should be alright, since you own the DVD's in question, and you are not altering the audio stream, just extracting it for your own personal use.

Using software like this would work to extract audio, then you could burn the resulting files using free iTunes.

Burning isn't the touchy subject on here, it's the possibility about breaking copyright and license legislation, which the forum condemns. Like I said, I think you're alright. :)

Awsome. Thanks for all the help guys.

Magicman: I'm not too familiar with itunes(yet, lol), so will that program extract in mp3 format? What format does itunes use?

Also, thank you guys for trusting and understanding that they are purchased. Most were gifts for my recent birthday, but i want to be able to enjoy them without having to watch the darn dvd.

You can import a variety of common audio formats into the program's "library" and then use the program's interface to burn an audio disk. It's quite intuitive, that's why I suggested it. You create a compilation, select the files you want to burn from the library and their order, then burn the disk.

By default the program imports into Apple's AAC format, but you can change that to mp3 in options. Regardless, there is only one audio cd format, so that isn't really important for your needs.
