Is it possible to get video AND audio out of an HDMI card in my desktop?

As the title states, I would like to know if it's possible to get audio and video from a single HDMI cable out of my computer and into my TV. Will a certain card offer this or will it only send video?

My TV does not have a digital audio input on it so audio would have to come through the HDMI cable as it does with my cable box.

If your tv has an hdmi input and your video card has an hdmi output then yes, you can get video and audio to your tv/monitor.

Yes.. HDMI does support both Video and Audio.

OK, I knew HDMI allows both audio and video signals to be sent simultaneously, but I also noticed some HDMI computer cards also had audio out options, making me think maybe a computer's sound card would interfere or there might be some anomaly like that causing an issue with sending both. Does this mean that these HDMI cards are actually video/sound cards in one? Or does the computer's sound card somehow send a signal to the HDMI output jack?

I want to be able to view a web browser on my TV so I can stream HD video/audio from sites like HBOGO, etc, but most of the boxes on the market seem to offer no browser (like AppleTV) or they have terrible reviews of slow, choppy browsers (such as the Logitech Revue based on GoogleTV). Almost all seemed to be based much more around apps like Netflix, etc, which I'm not interested in. I just want to be able to browse to a site like I do on my computer and stream straight from their site.

You set your audio output for which device you want to use. Video cards that have an hdmi output on them actually have an high definition audio device. When you install the video driver, usually you have to download and install a separate audio driver for the hdmi. Hopefully I make sense.

That makes perfect sense and definitely answers my question. Thanks for the help. :good:

On a side note, I purchased a Logitech Revue last night just to check out my other options for browsing since it comes with Google Chrome. The two downfalls I noticed (and reasons I will be returning it) are 1) for some reason certain sites I normally log into on my regular computer through Chrome do not respond properly and 2) performance-wise it basically runs like a 10 year old computer as far as navigation, etc. Once you get a movie playing, it works pretty well because my internet connection is fast enough for streaming HD, but the time it takes to get there and load sites is painful most of the time. Slow, choppy, and really unusable except for maybe those who aren't used to browsing quickly on a regular basis.

I did really like the wireless keyboard/trackpad controller, but I'll be returning it this weekend and putting the money towards a budget computer build as I mentioned previously.
