Is it possible...

to get a quality laptop under $1,000? It's probably far-fetched, but here's what I want...

-Able to handle multi-tasking with dreamweaver/photoshop.
-Able to play occasional games like BF2 or other FPS's
-Burn DVD's
-No OS, no pre-installed crap (already have XP Pro copy)
-Light weight, as opposed to those huge massive 7-9 lb machines.

Like I said, getting below the $1,000 mark seems nearly impossible. Any ideas out there? Battery life isn't really a problem. At least 2 hours. Portability is a huge plus. Barebones is out of question.

First of all, what specs are mandatory? What do I absolutely need in my laptop? Second, ideas where to shop?

My first time posting and thanks everyone in advance for any posts...

-confused and about to give up

Probably under $1500... You might be able to do it to a Dell if you catch a good rebate from www.techbargains.com Sometimes they have $800-$900 off any pc over $1600-$1700.. So it really drops the price.. Check it out.

on reduced stock and all those offers dells awesome. you could wait around until good deals come along. looking into ebay might be a good idea if you can find a dealer, but obviously be careful

so you basically want a top of the line computer. i do not know how you are going to pack all that into a small laptop. do you want to play the FPS well?

techbargains.com looks like a good idea, but it's a complete mess! Yes, I wouldn't mind playing some First Person Shooters like BF2 on it, so what kind of specs do I need for sure? As for Dell, am I looking at XPS?

Okay, so let's get rid of the whole gaming part. The more I think about it, it's not as important. So now what do I need in a laptop to handle photoshop/dreamweaver/other multimedia apps?

You can pretty much try any of the Toshiba Satalitte moduls and configue them they way you want it. There is also cheap Hp and Compaq Computers. Yeah i dont think you would be able to get a laptop that can handle BF2 under 1000. Well Good Luck!

my comp in my sig was $1206 USD shipped with a coupon. Maybe if you could manage that amount it would handle BF2. Though im not sure as i havent playe BF2 on this comp.

1. <Able to handle multi-tasking with dreamweaver/photoshop> U will need more
than 1 GB of RAM ro work smoothly. P4 2.8Ghz+will work fine
2 <Able to play occasional games like BF2 or other FPS's> Need GPU 128MB +
3. <Burn DVD's> u no it
4. <No OS, no pre-installed crap (already have XP Pro copy)> look fr refurbished or ex demo with lost CDs
5 <Light weight, as opposed to those huge massive 7-9 lb machines.> SEcond Hand fr that price

I think it will better if u leave the hope to get a brand new system with that config. Its better to look online for good refurbished system possibly with some warranty. They will suit ur pocket n work n there is nothing worng in it
