Is it Possible?

Afternoon All,

Had a quick question;

Can I mask my IP address to say another specific IP address?

I know you can change it to a random IP address however wasn't sure if a specific IP was possible.

Thanks,

Neil

If you had a VPN connection to this place and used it as your gateway, then yes you could.

I VPN home from work and get my home IP address.

That is exactly what I am trying to do, but vice versa, home to work connection. How would I go about setting up the VPN etc.?

Your workplace would need to have VPN servers configured, you can't do this yourself unless you are part of the networking staff.

You aren't going to be changing it to an arbitrary address. Your ISP likely filters any address other than the one they give you via DHCP (called IP source guard), and they wouldn't have routes on the internet for whatever IP space you are going to squat down on. Also you have no ability to actually see if another IP is allocated or in use.

The only real option is encapsulating your traffic somewhere else via VPN or proxy.

Ahh I see, maybe I can ask the IT guy. Thanks for you help.
Why would you even need this? As a Network guy if you just said 'I want to mask my IP' then there's no way in hell I'd give you access to connect to the company network externally.
