Is it safe disabling my Intel Graphics

So I have been playing this game called Garry's Mod and I really like it. However, it is very laggy. The game is pretty old though. I have a GTX 960m and although it's not all that new, it should be able to run the game way better than 15-25 frames per second. I already made it so that all my games run with the Nvidia processor but I think it is still running with my Intel Graphics 530 (I think that's what it's called) but is it safe to disable the Intel so it forces Garry's mod to run with the Nvidia processor?

Are you sure you have the latest Nvidia drivers? It should switch to that card when gaming, and you should be able to nearly max that game out with a 960m.

If you disable the Intel graphics, your battery life is going to tank.
 
Don't disable it, you just need to open up Nvidia Control Panel (I think it's called that) and set the game to always run on the high end GPU. I don't have my laptop handy, otherwise I could give you better instruction.

I mean like I heard that there is a problem that source games detect the wrong GPU

I have done that already. I mean like I heard that there is a problem that source games detect the wrong GPU and I think it is detecting my bad Intel Graphics one so is it fine to disable it because I always have laptops plugged in.

If you manually override it should use the Nvidia one. I've had similar problems on my laptop (see sig below), but if you override it's always used the overriden one. You double check that specific game? Might need to add the .exe for GMod manually and force it to use High End Nvidia device.

Yes I even made it so I chose the specific game to run The Nividia Processor and I still got the same FPS.
 
Shouldn't the internal GPU be disabled in BIOS and the dedicated activated? I'm not sure. I've never owned anything with two GPUs.

Also, is this game largely CPU or GPU dependent?

No, most newer machines use a graphics switching technology that uses the integrated for basic stuff like videos and general usage and then switches to the dedicated GPU for more demanding stuff. Usually it auto detects this but sometimes it doesn't correctly and you have to force it via the control panel. This lets laptops like mine get 5-6 hour battery life for basic usage on the integrated card but still have some gaming power when needed.

Of course its safe, why wouldn't it be. It's like a light switch - you use it or not..

Everytime you power down your disabling everything.. your fine! Do whatever you need to do to make the game smooth!!

Ok and also on the Nvidia Control Panel, it says the Intel Graphics is my display so will I lose the display when I disable it?
 
Ideally on a laptop, you'd want to only use that 960M for games, and then save power and such by using the Intel onboard gpu. The machine should just do this for you - in theory you should have to disable anything.

Do you launch games through GeForce Experience? maybe try a game reinstall and/or re-optimize that game, if possible, via GeForce panel!?

One other thing, is Garry's Mod more CPU intensive? What processor is in your laptop?

Not a computer wiz but I have the i7 6700hq and Intel graphics 530

As others mentioned, check driver.. I'm not familiar with that game but, if its older as you mentioned, I see no reason why a 960M wouldn't perform very well.
