Hi, jus wondering if its completely safe. As in no negative reprocussions for doing it too many times..... I have a VAIO laptop, and they come with this feature that sony put in to reformat to factory settings, as in everything is gone except for what you had when u first pulled it out of the box. I've done this once already, and i feel that my comp is running a bit slow, I jus bought another gig of ram to total 1.5 gigs and startup and shutdown still take around 2 minutes :( i figured its a bunch of crap on it so i ran ccleaner, used regcleaner, and defragged, but still having the same problems! so i figured i wud jus reformat... is this a good idea? and can any bad things come from reformating over and over? oh and file backups aint an issue cause i jus use my ipod as an external hd so yea.... thanks for any help u can provide

Formatting is common and is used to refresh the computer, There is no real risk in formatting your computer alot ... well I dont know of any, and also If you own a new legit Windows XP CD having to register will be a problem.

I personally have not experienced any problems repeatedly reinstalling or repairing XP and have done so 20 or so times on the same box (i play around with alot of settings to learn). As far as your system becoming slow one thing i have noticed is that after installing certain updates (SP2 mostly) my machine seems to take a little longer to boot and load (after log in) but nothing significant.
