Is it safe to have my laptop plugged in all the time?

Hi everybody, I am hosting a small-scale Minecraft server for a few friends on my old laptop, but so far I have been turning it off when I go out or go to sleep, but I was wondering if I needed to? I have looked about a bit already, but there are mixed opinions on the subject.

I have heard that it might be useful to take out the battery, which makes sense (the battery is already buggered, so draining its life is not an issue), but do I need to? I also heard that I should buy a cooling pad, but then I have heard that they are a waste of money.

Any input would be appreciated, thanks.

Hmmm, I have a netbook (like a laptop) that is my Teamspeak and DNS server on 24/7. No issues. Although netbooks don't get as hot as a laptop. A cooling pad could come into good use depending on how hot the laptop gets and the CPU utilization. If the CPU is being used well above 50% all the time I would consider a cooling pad. I was gonna run a ASIC bitcoin miner on my old laptop. But that wouldn't use the CPU all that much. All the processing is in the USB ASIC.

Not sure about the battery thing. I run my laptop with the battery all the time. So far no issues. Although I'm not hosting a server on this laptop. But the netbook does have the battery in it that is on 24/7. I like that in it's like a UPS in case the power goes out.

Most of the debate you'll hear is around the battery.

I wouldn't keep it under high load 24/7, but it should be operable staying on without problems under a normal workload 24/7.
