Is it safe to just copy-Paste?

I just got a 250GB hard drive from my uncle and I was wondering, is it safe to just copy-paste my main hard drive over to that? This hard drive is my C: Drive with XP, iTunes, and Steam, all of which I think need to be my C: Drive, or am I mistaken? Could I move the hard drive to a different slot and install the 250GB as my C: Drive and all of the new stuff, (Steam games, iTunes songs, etc.) Will be moved to there?

If you are going from a smaller hard drive to a bigger one then you need to clone the drive. You just can't copy and paste from one drive to another if its to be your boot drive, it won't boot.
 
So could I do my second Idea and move my C: Drive to maybe my G: Drive slot and use my 250GB as my C: Drive and boot off of my G: Drive?
 
C drive is gonna be your boot drive correct? You would have to either install windows on the drive or clone your existing drive to that one. Moving the drive to a different slot will not change the drive letter. Are you using IDE or SATA drives?
 
I'm not sure what the hard drive he game me is because it is in a computer and I have not had the chance to take it out yet, but It seems to be connected via ribbon cable.
 
That would be an IDE drive. Is yours an IDE drive? Are you just wanting extra storage space or what?
 
Our Main Hard Drive is connected via Sata.

Yeah, we need extra storage, I am trying to save us money since I am planning on building us a new computer within the next 6 months - a year, (That is unless they will let me get a Mac Mini, professional Apple Freak here) And I don't want to put any more crap in this thing unless I have to, we've had three hard drive failures in this one and I don't trust it enough to put a brand new 1TB Hard drive in it.

My problem is that my main two programs I use, iTunes and Steam, download automatically to the C: Drive.
 
You can change the directory for itunes I believe. Also you can move the "my documents folder to the new storage drive so it doesn't use space on your boot drive.

Okay thanks, I'll try that, but what about Steam? Should I just uninstall it and re-install it to the new drive or can I not do that?
