Is it the MB or the Video card?

The system is sort of unstable and it crashes frequently. By crash i mean the screen suddenly said it's "out of range", while doing normal task or sometimes it just stops responding(even idleing). P4 630, 1gb supertalent ddr2 n 256mb ddr2(meant to wrk in dual channel but didn't wrk out), 160gb maxtor diamondplus9/8mb, Asus x600xt/128Mb, ECS PF4 MB, 550W PSU, and nothing is overclocked. In addition to that, I could change everything else in the BIOS except it won't let me enable the HDD SMART function. Enter the BIOS again it's still disabled, even i enabled it and saved it. The system also "magically" overclocked itself to 3.2GHz after i left it on for a day. Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

My first thought would be RAM. It's probably not the video card as they usally mess up when gamming.

I would take out a stick of RAM and try it for a while. If it messes up, use the other stick. If that doesn't solve it, we'll continue with other attempts :P

I tried that and it turns out it's not the RAM's fault. I will be around:) to check the replies because i want to solve the problem ASAP.

Hmm...well I read over your post again and it does kind of sound like the motherboard. But still, I'd try a few more things first... Do you have another video card you could try for a while? Perhaps just a plain PCI card? It might even be worth trying another harddrive... *shrugs* Always best to try everything before assuming anything...

The HDD's from my previous system and it has been working for almost 2 years now. Is it necessary to install windows on another drive? i don't want to do it bc all the stuff are nicely packed inside the case now, if it's necessay guess i'll do it then. no i don't have an extra video card, but i'll try to get one just to eliminate some of the possibilities.

Just because a harddrive has been working for 2 years doesn't mean it's still good... Harddrives die quite frequently. I'm not saying that's the problem, just you shouldn't rule it out...

Obviously, you will have to reload windows, but you could just run it unregistered(for 30 days) if you could on another drive as a test.

Info regarding the PSU. From BIOS: CPU Vcore 1.32V, 1.5V=1.50V/1.52V, 3.3V 3.31V/3.32V. SpeedFan: Vcore 1.34V, +12V 5.72V(?), 3.3V 3.33v, Vcc 5.07V, Vin2 0.00V, 5Vsb 4.99V, Vbat 0.00V
