kind of it was some thing about a cable that could catch on fire. i dont really think that they could blow up. they might but i honestly dont know.

Seriously?

Well I suppose if anything gets hot enough you can get it to catch fire... Maybe turn on your 360 and throw a pile of blankets over it and play an intensive game for a few hours and see.

As for blowing up in your face... What would be inside your 360 to make it do that? I'd have to say NO ;).

Edit:

I'm tempted to close this thread on the basis of bad information. Stick a some TNT in your 360 and it will blow up. People are actually voting yes and I assume because it is possible to catch it on fire, you can catch just about anything on fire if you try hard enough :P Some people might take this information to heart and think that there is a risk of exploding 360's.

I've edited the title of this thread because it is important that no one believes that 360's will blow up in your face.

Well that what happened to my friend's friend. Surgery for him....if you leave it on pause like he did for 8 hours and went back to play and BOOM!!! That's what I've herd.

That is terrible!.... Information that is. There is nothing that would cause an explosion, you only need to use common sense to realize that. worse case scenario is that your 360 would stop working.

I had heard that a friend of a friend of a friend who had a cousin that had a friend who's cousin's uncle, which had a friend who's sister had a friend that bought a 360 that did not explode after having it on pause for 24 hours. When that person came back and pressed the button, the 360 would not work :(. No surgery for him.

I'm guessing that a fire started in it and the PSU exploded.
It is not going to happen, trust me... The PSU would merely catch fire and the rest of the 360 would turn into a puddle and burn your house down :P. If there was a fire in the PSU that is ;). Note: this section has been edited because I thought you said "CPU"

Edit:

Would that be a bad thing? :P Sorry, I'm just bias towards computers :)
Bad/wrong information is always a bad thing.

Edit:

Why would you not have mentioned the following in your first post in this thread? As a matter of fact you sounded like you where not sure if it was possible... would that not have been a clear indicator that it is possible (which it is not).

Do not take this personally but we have to be careful not to give such bad information.

It was on the news a month back on CBS2 in Illinois. They had a huge recall I'm sure some of you will remember on the 360 for reasons like fires and not have a sufficient cool mechanism.

Oh so it was on the news that a 360 exploded? It is funny I've heard nothing like that. Hmmmmm, well I'll go look that up now.

Edit:

well that is strange, I Google search and nothing on the first page of results... I'd imaging it would be the first.

Look we all know the 360 can overheat and that there has been cooling issues. Also we all know that if something gets hot enough it will catch fire, I've not heard of one catching fire though (searched for that as well). My only argument is that the thing will not explode and never has. As for the fire, well I'm very skeptical.

My request to you:

Please find me some information on the web that would back up your argument, make sure that it is a reliable source. It is common protocol when someone suggests you are wrong ;). Also as I've said I'm skeptical that one has caught fire... But I down right do not believe one has blown up. Until you have proven it as fact I find this conversation and thread pointless.

well... the only way electrical components explode, is either with explosives,.. or some serious over amperage.
I tried what happens when you put 40V @ 40A (the maximum those HP psu's could deliver) on an IC.. well.. It did explode.. but not enough to get through a plastic case,, so i really doubt they acutally explode.

The only thing I've heard that's remotely close to an explosion was the Xbox's power cable possibly sparking and MS sent brand new cables to those who had a certain model number. I'm talking about Xbox not Xbox 360. For the 360 I've only heard of overheating issues, that's it, no explosions.

I've herd of over heating ones, like said above but not exploding ones, but if you try hard enough anything can be blowed up.

blowing up like in a popping capasitor? ir blowing up like litterairy tearing the case appart with it?

Depends on what you do with it, I don't think any thing that's built into the 360 can tear the case apart but if you put in some other stuff... you can.

Well I did say in the question and/or so weather It blows up or not They still can catch on fire. That's the why it was on new, the catching fire. Explosion was like i said, something I herd. That's why the issued a recall on them when they first came out cuz of being on fire and what better way to do that than on the news? I'm not saying they do this now, but when they came out I think they did.

I never heard anything about the 360s being recalled because the caught on fire. The only thing I heard was that there were some overheating issues and that may have caused the 3 rings of death to appear...nothing about the systems lighting up for no reason...and I had a really hard time understanding that post...

The original xbox's had the danger of catching fire, gue to the power cable.. that cable was replaced ( I got a new one from microsoft for example) I havnt heard of anything like that for the xbox360 tough.. and exploding? i think you might be confused with the dell and toshiba laptops, wich had faulty batteries, since in the 360 there is absolutely nothing that could even remotely blow the casing by blowing up ;)

my friend was one of the first to get one and his psu did catch fire and melted alot of the interior out, but not explode or anything
