is it true that you can't have 2dif types of ram? like a 256 and 512?

also i have another quetion. lets say i have a 256ram at 133mhz. then i get another 256 at 333mhz. will the speed of my computer be noticable? what if i take out my 133mhz, and put in two 256 with 333mhz, will that be noticable?

i think you can have a 256 and a 512 sticks making a total of 768mb as long as thier the same type like both are DRAM.
if you put in the 256 333mhz w/ the 256 133mhz then the 256 333mhx will drop speed to equal the slower 133mhz. as if its noticable im not sure. i think it would depend on what your doing b/c some programs rely on ram and some dont.

i thinks its all answered in RAM101...

so, what your saying is that i'll have two 133s? if that's the case, isn't it just better to buy one 256mb that has 333 and take out my old one? or buy a 512and take out my old 256?

yes
it would be better to buy a faster 512mb, b/c if you buy just 256mb and take out the old one then thats 256mb less than what you could of had.
 
another question. i have a gateway and went here http://accessories.gateway.com/Acce...16441/Memory_316624/Default.htm?seg=hm&clv=DD
i went to the right side and clicked find the right memory for your gateway. i typed my serial no. and they gave me only 3 rams to choose form. 126 256 512, all pc2700. my questions are if my computer can handle a 1gb because it says Maximum Amount / Type of RAM that can be Installed: 2048MB DDR PC2700. also, can i have other types of ram besides a pc2700? lets say, a 3200? and also, what is the difference between a 256 with 333mhz and a 512 with 333mhz? sorry i have so many questions

probably not. since gateway said you can have pc2700 and not 3200 then your mobo most likely doesnt support 3200. but you have have anything below 2700.

ok, so i can get a 1gb memory. another question-_-..... so i was looking at the types of rams i can get and i saw some with dimm. i read the sticky on rams101 on dimms, but don't get it. how do i know if a dimm is compatible with my computer? all i know is that i have to look for a pc2700 ddr. i don't know about dimm.

dimm is just the technical term for the ram stick. like instead of saying i have 2 sticks i have 2 dimms. or somthing like that.
