yes, AMD calls it cool n quiet technology (not sure if its exactly the same), i duno what intel calls it. intel is definitely more reliable in overheating situations, but it doesnt matter if you cool it adequately.
basically, intel procs will just underclock themselves in an overheating situation.

i thought it was like this, AMD procs at idle downclock themselves but when u need the power the go back up to the stock clock

you sure if they overheat they downclock too?
 
Intel CPUs throttle (down clock) when they overheat, AMDs might as well. Should the CPU fail to throttle the motherboard should (but not guranteed) shut the system down before damage is done.

Well, the equivalent of AMDs Cool 'n Quiet is Intel's SpeedStep, although I don't think thats for overheating issues...
 
i think there is a little confusion over the speedstep and quite and cool compared with overheating issues.

As cromewell said if either amd or intel begin to seriously over heat they will throttle down dramatically to prevent burn out. queit and cool technologies are aimed reduncing the heat in periods where the cpu is not being fully used.
