Is it worth getting 4gb of ram

word.

And for the thread starter, it depends on what you're using vista for. If you're a gamer then you should upgrade. or if you use your pc for media then yes. But if you use it just to surf the web, I wouldn't bother.

Or you could go back to xp...

What game requires 4 gig of RAM?

I would like to know as well. The only game that comes close to using up all of my 2GB of RAM would be Dark Messiah: Might and Magic, which uses up about 90-95% of my available RAM.

Good lord, what a memory leak! Are you running vista?

with 4gb appears to make vista run twice as fast and as smooth.

Yeah and putting in 91 octane gas over 89 octane seems to make your car go faster, but does it really make it go faster?

I can't explain it any more simple than this. Unused RAM does not increase performance. If your system is running with 1 gig of RAM and only using 700 megs of memory when in use, adding more RAM really doesn't do much. The only time it add performance is when you are running enough resources and applications that you are out of physical RAM and the machine has to go to virtual memory which is a lot slower. Unused RAM does nothing performance wise for a system. 4Gigs versus 2Gigs probably does nothing, except for a few instances. Like maybe when everything loads at once and you are running 2x 2gig @ dual channel configuration so there is more bandwidth, but even then it is not going to make a difference of night and day.
