Is it worth it installing Linux?

I'd just like to mention that with the newest Linux kernel, AMD graphics have improved up to 90%.
This is not AMD that has done it, it actually surprised AMD.

I'm not that much into Linux, I use Ubuntu once in a while, so I'm not sure which kernel Ubuntu 13.10 runs on, but if you have an AMD card, this is great news.
Many people speculate that it's because NVIDIA doesn't coorporate very well with the Linux developers. You've probably seen or heard of the famous interview with Linus Thorvalds, the creator of Linux (not the creator, but massively credited as the inventor), where he flips off NVIDIA. But it's just speculation of course :)

Ubuntu 13.10 is running 3.11 Kernel which according to the Manjaro devs this update also has a lot AMD performance increases as well. Downside to distributions like Ubuntu or Linux Mint is you can upgrade the kernel but the rest of the operating system is the last release which means by upgrading your Kernel you may have some breaks. So it is usually best to wait until the next release of your distribution, unless you are using a rolling release like Arch, Manjaro, Antergos or Debian.

Well well. There is still an issue, not major yet annoying: each time I reboot, Linux (Mint 15, fully updated, with MATE) seems to have forgotten all about my background. It's back to standard and the selected background is not in the list anymore.
But it appears to remember the volume setting for example, so I guess it's not all system settings it forgets.
Hmm?

PS: Unfortunatly I have an NVidia Geforce GTX670... Might run far better on Windows!

What the hell?
I only switched to the newest NVidia driver, suggested by Linux itself!
This is what I get now when booting in Linux (Windows is just fine):

Alright. And I tested the Bluetooth functionality, after which the Wifi seemed not to find the network anymore so that's why I rebooted, after which I got this screen.
One more thing and I'm kicking Linux out of here!

Man you have been having some serious trouble getting it running.

there should be an advanced option in GRUB for Mint. See if you can boot to a generic VGA mode or something like that. Remove the driver and either try a different one, or use the generic built in VGA driver.

Well I'll be damned. (pardon my language)
It seems like Linux actually got the message!
I simply rebooted to see if I would get the error message again, and not only did it boot correctly: it actually remembered my desktop background!
The only problem persisting now is the links to the documents and images but that's just a minor thing.
Oh and uh...I'm not touching the bluetooth functionality for a while now.

I am sorry to hear about all the problems you have been having, when dealing with hardware that may require proprietary drivers it can sometime's get a little hard. Just make sure you always check for your open source drivers as well. I was talking to the guy on the IRC and he told me that he gets better performance using the open source drivers for his Nvidia graphics card then he does using the proprietary, in some cases proprietary drivers are a smart thing to use but not in all cases since open source drivers and software receive more rapid updates and are built and fixed by the users who are currently using that product.
