is it worth it???

ok so like 3 years ago i built my current rig, and its been great, although ive upgraded it here and there...

anyways, heres my question:

Ive noticed nowadays that the price for prebuilt computers is astonishingly low. is it really worth going thru the trouble of building anymore? I would love to build another, but it makes me sad to think a new build would be less cost-efficient than a prebuilt...

any pros/cons?

You would save money buy building a new one instead of buying a retail. You get exactly what you won't plus you get the piece of mind that it was done right. I built the system in my sig for around $500 but I could probably only sale it for $300 because once computer components are use they lose value fast. Not only that but computer technology moves fast and it is hard to keep up with. I will never buy a retail PC again no as long as I can use my hands anyways.

Pros
You get what you won't
You save money
Piece of Mind
Better performance

Cons
None that I can think of

A couple of the brand name computers that I have dealt with in the recent past all had some unique setups goin on that limited the ability to upgrade in the future.

All do mostly and most of the time if you won't to upgrade to a GPU then you have to buy a new PSU. If you won't to upgrade CPU then you got to buy new Mobo. Most only have 1 hard drive place and maybe 2 CD/DVD drive placements. They also Have small case that make larger video cards, PSU, Heat sinks hard to fit in. It's always better to build your own or to get somebody you know to do it for you that way you always have room to upgrade. If you where going to build a computer then AMD would be the best way to go if you won't upgrade ability since almost all there CPU are backwards compatible.

damn i wrote an arctile for a blog on this a long time ago. of course, when the owner gave up blogging, he deleted everyting...pisses me off!

anyway, build the computer, never buy unless your in the market for under 300 and want to keep everything legal ;)

youll never get the same performance out of a prebuilt for the same price as a custom. especially when you have access to computerforum. we can recommend a really nice bang for the buck pc for any budget pretty much.

with that being said, like elimin8or said, if youre on a really low budget (under 500) then your probably better off getting prebuilt.

well, i did research on that. at 500, the custom built was better. at 300, they where the same, but you probably get higher quality with buildign it your self.

true, but what are you getting for 500 bucks lol. seems like more of a hastle to make a 500 dollar build then getting a 500 dollar prebuilt.

My rig cost around $500 nothing used either but I did already have the HDD and ODD so that would have probably been another $100.
