is kasperzky 7.0 supposed to do this?

I installed this on my GFs pc. When you click the K icon, the security window opens. Ther is a constant running number under computer protection status. Its always running. Is this normal?

Yes, it's completely normal. It shows you the level your Kaspersky's protection is running on.
