i was previously running a wireless network in my home.....long story short....im using a wired network now....i have 2 computers in total...my computer (main) and my moms computer......my question is that my moms computer is old and has no kind of virus/internet protection....is my computer at risk of getting some kind of virus since now it is a wired connection to the router or is that not how it works im not sure?
my computer has norton 2008

If your and your mom's pc can access internet then you should probably get some antivirus software. Google AVG, its free and works just fine.

avg is not from google, it is from grisoft.com
If you have Norton 2008 then you computer is secure.
But your mom computer is not secure since there is not security tools installed. You have to install an antivrus+antispyware.

Are you using a router?

I know AVG isnt from google, i meant to "google it", verb form.

AVG is more efficient than Norton, suggest you download it.

haha right... I'm using Norton and it's one of the few that have picked up all infections I had... I tried AVG, it found nothing when I had the msn virus but Norton picked it up... The only bad thing about Norton is that it's a resource hog, but as long as you're not a hardcore gamer, it will run smooth.

Yeah thats true. My bad, depends on what you need your computer for. Norton is really good, AVG isn't as good. Efficient in not taking a lot of your RAM, but I wouldn't bother paying for Norton. AVG, Spybot is all I use and haven't had a problem.

Yeah there are three possible reasons:
1) The infections have limited visual symptoms
2) You stay on the good side of internet :D
3) You're not infected (which is the one I hope is true :))

I would suggest using Ad-Aware too, it's a decent program :)

Funny you mention that, after i replied I remembered that I didn't have Ad-Aware installed (recently changed OS) so I downloaded it.

1) No symptoms at all:D
2) Hahaha, "good-side" ? I belong to the darkside... well, more like I tend to wander into the darkside, thats why I get many viruses. (None infect me cuz of AVG and Spybot [also Ad-Aware])
3) I'm as clean as a ... clean thing.

Webbenji, if you can, would you mind reading my thread over at HERE? Just happened today and I was wondering if you could help.

at work we do not allow any outside unknown computer to connect until we scan them with antivirus. one infected pc CAN spread to the entire network.

norton is exceptionaly good, as web said, although i do fit into the hardcore gamer catagory, and the resource hogging does anger me sometimes, its no fun having 100% of my computer being used :(
