is my computer dying?

i have a 4 year old HP laptop. for the past few weeks, it sometimes suddenly cuts off on me and sometimes when i turn it on, the harddrive doesnt seem to go on and the screen stays blank even though the power is on and it is turned on.

Someone suggested it could be the battery. i have virtually no battery life in my computer, but when i unplug it (when it works) it still functions for a few minutes. i also tried to take out the battery, and same result.

Is my computer about dead? Is this common in older computers?

how much longer

anyone here care to place bets on how much longer my computer has? I suppose now is a good time to start back-uping my data!

Lol, bets? Naw. Your computer is standing on its last legs right now. Its about to go down like Yung Joc made it do.

Anyways, yea start backing up everything :D

new computer

I use a computer for general purposes, and alot of photography, storage and some editing. I am actually looking for an apple for my next computer. I am uncetain whether I will get a desktop or a laptop.

I hate paying more $ for just an image/trend since macs seem to cost more than their PC counterparts, but I had some bad experiences with viruses and other things of the sort, and from what I heard, macs don't get them much.

Any suggestions on what to get?

If I get a PC desktop system, I am intrigued by the possibily of getting a huge 30" monitor. Are these things too big? Anyone use one here?

I don't own one, though I have used one. They are awesome for gaming and videos and pictures, but for basic tasks it may be a bit of overkill.
