Is my computer overheating? If so why?

Hello,

Hopefully someone can assist me in explaining why my computer may be overheating. The spec is as follows:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 5000+
2GB Ram
Nvidia GeForce 9600GT (512MB)
2 internal hard drives: 1 - C Drive - WDC 250GB, 1 - D Drive - Samsung 500GB
Sound Blaster X-Fi Xteme Audio Sound Card.

I think the problem lies with my Graphics card as the issue only happens if I am playing a game. Idling my temperatures read as follows:

Motherboard: 47C
CPU1: 52C
CPU2: 51C
Aux: 49C
GPU: 50C
HD1-Samsung:
HD2-WDC:

Playing a Game:

Motherboard: 50C
CPU1: 56C
CPU2: 54C
Aux: 53C
GPU: 59C

The temperatures make little difference with or without the side panel on my case on, but after a while the heat in my room from my PC will be unbearable.

I have the following fans:

one on the heatsink.
One on the GPU.
One on the side panel (Case)
One on the front of Case.
One on the Back of the case.

The two on the front and back are those big fans.

Personally I think the machine idles at quite a high temperature as well.

games use cpu too, and chipset, get CORETEMP and tell me the temp and the buttom

Nope, thats pretty far from overheating, those are lower temps than what i get, i have a 5200+ and i get about 58c when gaming, you are fine.If it goes 63c plus, then you might wanna check somethings out...

None of those temps are cause for alarm, and your GPU is actually quite cool under load, so that's definitely not it. You never said what issue it was you were actually getting, it might be your PSU getting squirrelly seeing as how your temps are fine.

I have generally the same fan setup as you except I don't have a side panel fan. At idle my cpu is at 37c and my radeon hd 4870 is at 60c (25% fan speed). Check and make sure you have enough thermal paste on your cpu heatsink.

This is what I like to have for a setup...

- 1 large fan sucking cool air in
- 1 large fan pushing hot air out near the top of the case
- the gpu fan keeping the video card below below 65c at idle and below 80c at load
- obviously the cpu fan
- obviously the power supply fan pushing hot air out

Thanks for the help guys, most aprieciated.

The problem I am having is the amount of heat the machine over all appears to be kicking out if I am playing a game for more than an hour. The GPU will spike and my FPS will drop dramatically and then I just have to wait for the machine to cool down.

Regardless of what was said, your CPU is running to hot. I've ran aot of Athlon X2s. The last was a X2 5600 overclocked to 3.2 and at Idle it was in the low 30s/32-33c, under load in the high 30s or low 40s.

What kind of CPU cooler do you have?

Nothing special just your standard CPU fan.
