Is my CPU as fast as it seems?

Hello all,
New member Scooby Doggy Doo here.

I currently have a Intel 3.4 Intel processor and wondered if the new Core 2 Duo processors are much faster than this.

Which Core 2 Duo should I upgrade too to ensure I get double or even triple the speed I am at now?

Thanks for you time,

Dogster.

Almost any of the new ones should outstrip your current one, in addition to that they will be signifigantly faster...

Ive been told many times that on april 22 intel is gonna cut down prices by
40$

Also I think e6600 is good your cash

i have a p4 prescott 3.6, and with hyperthreading enabled, i score ~2700 pcmarks on pcmark 05.

a c2d 1.8 could outdo that on a bad day.

clock speed means little anymore.

Yeah, its the architecture that counts. The best CPU to get is the E6600, it has the best price to performance ratio.

Thanks everybody...
I'm glad any upgrade I make will be worth the money....
I'll say goodbye to my Intel Intel Intel 3.4 Intel Intel Processor Intel :-)

even with my lowly 270 pcmark score, i'm not upgrading until i can get a quad core for the current price of the dual cores.

in all reality, my prescott can do everything i need it to do, and when doing big diplexing/encoding/encryption tasks that it stinks at, i simply let it do it's work while i'm away.

dual/quad core is nice, and all, but in all reality it isn't NECESSARY yet.

ya, about another month now.......

it's just that from listening to the people on this forum, you lose touch with reality

you'd be led to believe that your heart will explode, and your fingers will fall off if you don't upgrade

some of you really need to leave the house once and a while

I think th e6300 is the best for the price, considering you can overclock it to out perform a e6600 very easily...
