I have a Intel Core2Duo E8500 and acording to my onboard temp reading it is runing at around 52-56oC, i then thought to use a secondary probe to see if the temp was lower and it may have been a problem with the scensor in the CPU but it read 44oC, and this was from on the heatsink. I was just wondering if any one els had this problem.
My CPU cooler is a thermaltake TMG i1.

thats normal for a pentium 4 or d , but for a core2, thats warm , but not critical.

whats it under load e.g after games

That temperature seems REALLY hot for a 45nm chip. What voltage and speed are you running it at? When my Freezone was being replaced and I ran my E8400 on a stock cooler at 4 GHz, my idle temps were in the mid 40's and they never went above 68 under Orthos load.

If those temps persist, you may want to double check your BIOS settings and reseat your HSF.

First the temp was recorded from both within the BIOS and with software that came with the motherboard.
secondly as i have only got the CPU a few days ago i have not overclocked as of yet and am runing stock.
I am quite new to building computers as this is my first build so all help is very helpful. thanks

yes i did use thermal past, i smeared a small amount onto the heat sink and about half a grain of rice onto the CPU, as it discribed in the instructions.
