hi guys

i dont know much about computer but i reckon my video card might be overheating.
My computer keeps locking up and the screen goes blank and i cant do anything after playing for like 10 mins, So i opened to case up and touched the video card and it was extremely hot. There is actually 3 fans in the case (1 on the card, 1 on the case, and 1 on the CPU) But the grapphics card was really really hot but all 3 fans were working

Does the graphics card usually get that hoT? what should i do?
My brother he actually has his case open and has like a proper fan going into his case. should i just do that?

does sound like its overheating, best thing to do is get rivatuner or something , that can check the temp and report it back to us

My 7900GS idles at 60C so yeah I'd say they do get hot.

As already advised, download something to check the temperature.

Google PC Wizard, check the temperatures on there and report back.

Anything over 70*C on full load is slightly worrying in my opinion.

Mine idles 53*C and on full load maxes at 62*C

Check GFX temperatures, PSU temperatures, and CPU temperatures.

ok guys thanks the the advice
I just turned my computer on and checked a few emails then checked this forum so its not like i have played any games or anything yet and these are the temperatures i got:

ok here's what i got from pc wizard

Processor Temp 45 degrees
Processor temp (core 1) 36 "
Processor Temp (core 2) 36 "
Mainboard Temp 44 "

GPU Temp 71 degrees
GPU Diode 75.5 "
GPU Fan 17%

Hard disk Tempsst3400620as 41 degrees
Hard disk Temp st340016A 35 :

i would take the card out take the fan off and clean the heat think and blow dust out of the fan then toss it back in

-if it was a spare card i would get one of those air spray things and tilt it up side down so wikked cold liquid comes out then dries quick on it and expirement

I got a case fan blutacked to the graphics card blowing through the memory heat sinks you can buy fans that conect to the PSU power conectors. or you can replace the rear fan with a more expensive fan that blows more air and is quieter. You really need a case fan at the front sucking in the cool air to blow over your hardware then the rear fan blows out the hot air. Also your CPU fan looks a bit small for todays day and age. if you ever buy a new case look at the thermal take cases and if you buy a new cpu or graphics card cooler look at Zaleman coolers. Also noticed that you have PCI slot covers missing so the hot air gets blown out the back then goes back in through those gaps to be heated to an even higher temp turing that case into an oven. You goto turn that case into a wind tunnel only air at the front gets in.

My older comp has a Thermal take case has 7 fans that come with it with fan speed knobs on the front so you can have it shift more air but more noisy in the summer.

my gaming and work computer has a Chenbro case a large case with one massive fan at the front and a massive fan at the back that i can control so its only noisy on a hot day when i need the air circulating alot. The graphics card is water cooled with a Zaleman resorator a very quiet cooler that can cool a GPu and CPU at the same time with no noise at all and less heat in the case because the heat is carried outside the case to cool.

Man you got to much dust in that case. I would first remove all your fans and clean them out cause blowing air would not help that dust is stuck on those fans. Also replace the thermal paste.
