Is my Graphics Card dying / dead ?

Hi
i wanted to ask if my graphic card is broke
it all started when playing a game then suddently an area of pixels started to move forth and back
then suddently the screen went grey with vertical lines
i restarted my pc but at the welcome screen it "freezes" with couple lines of colored pixels on the screen
after couple restarts i decided to reinstall windows 7
everything going normal and then i installed the motherboard drivers, changed screen resolution to 1080p also no problem
BUT when i install the graphics card drivers, after the computer restart, the problem occurs again at the welcome screen

1: black screen with colored pixels
2: sometimes i get into the desktop but with lines of pixels errors all over the place, nothing responds when clicking, then i get a blue screen of death / or the screen then just go grey

these problems only begin after installing graphics card drivers and the problem happens at the windows 7 welcome screen
i have tried installing the drivers from the cd that came with it and from the amd site but same result
is my video card broke?

i must add these information:
- video card is amd XFX HD 7870
- the card is about 4 years old
- i have recently (about 2 months) overclocked the video card to 1110 Mhz and 1450 memory

thanks in advance

Hi, Yes i already did DDU and installed drivers afterwards but still same problem
I didnt do it in safe mode though because for Some Reason first time i ran DDU in safe mode my pc went into reboot loop Forced me to reinstall Windows 7 again

so this means my graphics card is broke?
why do i still have video output? i can even set it to 1080p resolution
but everything crashes at windows 7 welcome screen after i install the driver
i think my graphics card is broke / having issues but why i still have video output before i install the drivers?
i want to buy new card but it sucks knowing that amd is releasing arctic islands in the future...

Because its the drivers for the card that is causing it to crash. You can try an older set of drivers to see if that helps. This does happen from time to time.

i tried the oldest set drivers ( the cd that came with the graphics card ) and also tried the latest one from the amd site
probably stupid question but ato be sure, there is still something wrong with my graphics card and not the drivers right..?

Yes, its a video card issue. You can try reinstalling windows fresh just to test before buying a new one or sending in for a replacement if its under warranty.

yes i have reinstalled windows 7 many times
because after i installed the video card drivers it crashes at the windows 7 welcome screen forces me to do clean install of window 7 again

damn guess its over for this card? sucks to know that if i buy a r9 series or something its still the same basic infrastructure of the HD 7xxx
and amd is launching the arctic island / polaris GPU's soon
what would you guys do? wait or buy now?

Is it possible for you to get into Safe Mode? How closely does this picture (one of my previous cards) match up with what you have? Mine would have various pixels flickering back and forth between different colors and the pattern would change slightly. My monitor would randomly start displaying this more and more frequently at random times, a reboot fixed it initially but after a while it happened constantly.

When did this start and how?

about 95% less
its more a black screen with couple thin lines of pixels
mine is not flickering at random
everything is "normal" when doing a fresh install of windows 7, the problem only begins after installing the video card drivers
it happened when playing team fortress 2 just like that and it happened about 4 days ago

See if you can get into Safe Mode and if so, run DDU and get a full clean driver install.

Did you try reseating the card and all of your cables?

Do the Nintendo Gameboy catridge cleanout too. (ie. blow the dust out of the slot with those compressed air aerosol cans)

somehow i can't get into safe mode...
when i try get into safe mode it just reboots at the windows 7 welcome screen (after loading)
i have a windows 7 activated with daz loader 2.2.2 (may that be the cause i can't get into safe mode?)

but i ran DDU in normal mode though
and i did try to take out the graphics card and blow out the dust and the slots and mount it back in
but no luck...
i even reinstalled windows 7 with the shift + f10 at the installation to clean out the disk partition but still after i install the video card drivers it will crash at the windows 7 welcme screen after reboot

long story short again:
graphics card worked fine for 4 years then i decided to overclock it to 1110/1450 less than 2 months ago
the problem just happened out of nowhere
was playing a game then suddently area's of pixels started to go back and forth
then i restarted then it crashes at the welcome screen

So basically you are using a pirated OS?

Get a new video card and pay for your OS and reinstall windows.

yes but is it possible that it may be the reason why i cant into safe mode?
and i guess buying a new card is the only option right now?

Having a pirated OS doesn't help matters any but can almost guarantee your video card is bad. Your OC may have damaged it.

What make and model of power supply do you have?
